Facts About Diabetes

Although diabetes is one of the most common diseases in the world, many people know little about it. By dispelling a few myths and getting the facts on the disease, diabetics or their loved ones stand a greater chance of managing the disease.

Diabetes is not curable

Although type 2 diabetes can disappear from a diabetic, it never really goes away. Diabetics can manage the disease and with time and discipline, minimize the symptoms. No cure exists for the disease, although many companies work hard at developing one.

Diabetes is not managed solely with simple insulin injections

Although insulin injections fight the disease as a first-line treatment, the injections only fight poor lifestyle choices so long. Eventually a sugary diet, increased alcohol consumption and lack of exercise affect the body more than a daily injection. Combing the injection with proper life choices minimize symptoms.

People can get diabetes from too much weight

Significant weight gain or even a terrible, long-term diet can create a diabetic condition in the body. When the body does not produce enough insulin to convert blood sugar, which happens with a diet heavy in sugar and fats, the high blood sugar leads to type 2 diabetes, a condition that causes poor blood circulation and might even require amputation.

Carefully managing diabetes leads to long life, but without any management efforts, diabetes can easily overrun the body, causing sickness, coma or even death. Any diabetic needs to learn treatments and proper dietary methods to effectively combat the disease.
