Loves It!! (the Multiclix)

Multiclix_features_1I received my Multiclix Lancing Device on Monday and after two days of test driving it....all I can say is 'where have you been for the last 14 years'?!?

This little gadget rocks! It totally eliminates the waste and carrying load; I keep two backup drums in my Glucometer case (I test upwards of 12 x daily) and one loaded in the lancing device. It's also pretty much painless which surprised me as I previously  used the BD Ultra Fine 33 Lancets; they are a significantly smaller gauge than the Softclix lancets. Yet I hardly even feel it when I use the Multiclix and often am not sure if it's worked until I see blood.

Although I never reuse a lancet (unless I have absolutely no other choice) the Multiclix does allow for the loaded lancet to be reused as many times as one likes. Used drums are marked red once they are removed from the device, which eliminates confusion as to what's new and what's used (I'm sure we all know how handy that can be lol). The lancet drums are easily replaced and removed, and clicking to the next lancet requires only a twist of the bottom of the device. There is also a display (of sorts) that uses lines to show how many lancets remain in the current drum.

The only problem I've experienced is that the device often misfires on the first try. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but from what I read in the destruction sheet there is a safety cap on each lancet; I'm assuming that the first shot somehow removes the cap and that this is causing the misfiring. Not a big deal though, as the lancet can be primed and used again.

I also got the Accu-check Advantage monitor, which I have yet to use. I was disappointed upon receiving the package when I found zero test strips. I have never received a new meter without getting at least ten strips along with the glucometer.  So it remains to be seen whether or not I'll even use this meter...(anyone need a backup?!)

On the upside, the Advantage case is nice and small and fits my BD Link meter, while also slipping nicely into my (very small) purse.

Two thumbs up for the Multiclix! If you can get your hands on one, give it a go!

Is this a Canadian thing? I haven't seen it on the US Accu-chek website.

I'm not sure I want it, but I would like to give it a try.

And I'm with you, you should have at least 10 sample test strips with a meter. I personally think they should give you 50, because I can never decide I like a meter until I've used it some.

Hi, I have been using one for over a month now and it rocks as far as pain goes. The first few times I used it I felt nothing, I changed the deep and did it again only for two blood drops to show up on the finger. I love it, love it, love it.

All the meter on sale now in Canada does not come with sample strips I gues it it their way of stopping some of the cross-boarder meter buying, a way of not making it too cheap for people from the US. I understand the next step is making our meter test only in mmol/l and not giving the option to change to the American unit of measure.

Kathleen - it is currently in Europe and Canada, I was told the US will get it in the fall along with a couple of new meters they are coming out with.

Pearlsa,
Have you found that your Multiclix misfires as well? I have taken to shooting it off once prior to actually pricking a finger (the terminology here is really tickling my funny bone lol) and am wondering if maybe I got a defective device?

The no sample strips thing must be brand new. The Canadian government would be better served to fix the meters in the international standard measurement rather than excluding test strips. Although why anyone would actually pay for a meter (cross-border prices or not) is beyond me.

I am hip to your jive, Kathleen. Who wants to spend $40 on a package of test strips that may never be used?? If I don't like the meter, I won't use it, simple as that.

Thanks for your input ladies :)

I don't know... they were demoing this thing at the ADA Conference but I wasn't that impressed. It seemed to be hard to draw any blood with it. Also, they were pushing really hard on palm testing. Yikes! Don't like the idea of stabbing my palm. Have you tried it?

I have tried testing on the palm Amy, and I wouldn't recommend it based on my own results (YMMV). Ouch ouch OUCH!!

Did you try the demo yourself Amy? The Multiclix has 11 depth settings (!); I use #2 myself and find it sufficient to draw enough blood.

Tiffany
